JOB TITLE: Mechanical Engineer
JOB DUTIES:
Full-time role. Plan & design mechanical products which incorporate digital user interfaces, leading the design, development & testing of these products & the selection of appropriate suppliers, manufacturing processes & materials therefor. This includes:
1- Conduct design & development of mechanical components (30%). This includes:
- Lead research, design & development of mechanical components & tools & manufacturing methods for mechanical products which integrate with digital interfaces, assessing utility, feasibility, sustainability, manufacturability & cost.
- Analyze technical drawings, blueprints & models to create accurate & functional mechanical designs which allow for seamless integration of user interfaces.
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) graphics & photo imaging software & to produce detailed design specifications. This includes employing AutoCAD, SolidWorks & 3D modeling tools (e.g., Autodesk Fusion, Shapr3D, & 3ds Max) to create detailed mechanical designs, 3D modeling & high quality 3d renders & industrial drawings.
- Integrate visual layouts & graphic assets into design presentations to enhance clarity & stakeholder communication.
- Review blueprints & customer design proposals to evaluate cost, manufacturability & reliability, & ensure alignment with project objectives.
2- Oversee prototyping & testing (30%):
- Lead the building & testing of prototypes to assess design performance (using Computer-Aided Manufacturing (“CAM”) tools such as 3D printers & Computer Numerical Control (“CNC”) machines for rapid prototyping).
- Support the installation & maintenance of mechanical components.
- Conduct performance analysis & adjust designs for optimal efficiency & reliability through iterative prototyping & testing techniques that identify areas for improvement.
- Set testing strategy & quality assurance methods to diagnose the reasons for equipment failures & recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineers to refine product functionality & quality based on test results & feedback from technical analyses, ensuring alignment with engineering specifications.
3- Supplier & manufacturing coordination (15%):
- Evaluate supplier capabilities & manage material selection for production by incorporating insights from material property analyses & manufacturing process reviews.
- Provide input on material selection & verify production processes meet quality standards through coordination with CAM software outputs & prototype testing results.
- Conduct quality checks & resolve issues during manufacturing to maintain high standards & recommend design modifications as needed to eliminate malfunctions & enhance performance.
4- Project coordination & cross-functional collaboration (15%):
- Lead coordination with multidisciplinary teams—including software engineering, marketing, packaging & production—to ensure integrated project execution.
- Guide the development team in designing effective user communication strategies & integration of digital user interfaces with mechanical design by leveraging a comprehensive understanding of hardware functionality & user interface & user experience principles (supported by tools such as Adobe XD, Figma).
- Set project timelines, resources & deliverables to meet organizational goals, ensuring that any design modifications suggested by testing outcomes are promptly implemented.
- Ensure clear communication between departments to align objectives & workflows by sharing detailed technical documentation & CAD/CAM reports.
5- Documentation & reporting (10%):
- Develop & maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all mechanical designs.
- Prepare reports on project progress, design updates, prototype evaluations, supplier feedback & test results for stakeholders.
- Ensure that documentation complies with regulatory standards & company policies by including detailed analyses of blueprint reviews, equipment performance & customer design evaluations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in mechanical engineering and 24 months (2 years) of experience in any mechanical product design or development positions in which required experiences were gained. Work experience must include:
- Using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 3D modeling tools (e.g., Autodesk Fusion, Shapr3D, 3ds Max) to produce detailed mechanical designs and 3D models.
- Creating and evaluating prototypes, performing performance testing, and applying design modifications based on test outcomes.
- Using CAM rapid prototyping tools, including 3D printers and CNC machines, to create and test prototypes, evaluating design functionality and durability.
- Analyzing and testing the feasibility, cost, reliability, and manufacturability of various engineering designs.
- Evaluating materials to be used in manufactured products, accounting for material performance, manufacturability issues, resilience, and cost objectives.
- Diagnosing the basis for mechanical system failures and testing solutions.
- Designing mechanical products which integrate digital user interfaces.
